From Aug. 15-21, police arrested 11 people on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants. Three were involved in traffic accidents.
So far this year, there have been 668 DUI arrests compared with 661 during the same period last year, an increase of 1.1 percent.
One person was arrested in the North Kohala district, the third this year.
Five were arrested in the Kona district.
There have been 897 major accidents so far this year compared with 976 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.1 percent.
So far this year, there have been 13 fatal crashes on Hawaii Island (two of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 15 fatalities, compared with 12 fatal crashes (two of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 15 fatalities during the same period last year. This represents an increase of 8.3 percent for fatal crashes.
